b.creative A creative introduction to ballet for Dance Teachers
b.creative is an innovative, new teaching resource designed by The Royal Ballet School to support teachers with introducing and creatively exploring the classical principles of ballet.
The resource includes a written pack, accompanying CD and DVD featuring Royal Ballet School and state school students. At the heart of the resource are four lesson plans, with extension activities for GCSE, A-Level and BTEC dance.
b.creative is not for sale and is therefore only available to those attending a Teachers’ Day.
b.creative Teachers’ Days are led by teachers from The Royal Ballet School’s Dance Partnership and Access Programme. They include an introduction to the b.creative resource and practical lesson ideas. No previous experience of ballet is required.

Course in Ballet Education Practice
This course trains dancers and teachers to work in the growing field of ballet education. Participants will develop the skills necessary to lead creative ballet activities in a variety of education and community settings.

Course Topics
• The reflective practitioner
• Teaching ballet technique
• Teaching creative dance
• Planning and enabling dance in different contexts
• Ballet as a resource for learning
The taught elements of the course will take place over 7 intensive weekends during the course of one year. In addition participants will be required to undertake self-organised activities, including lesson observations and teaching practice.
Course participants will also have access to an on-line discussion forum. This forum is designed to facilitate regular contact with the Course Leaders and to provide opportunities for the participants to share knowledge and experience.

Course tutors: Members of The Royal Ballet School and Royal Opera House Education plus senior figures from the field of dance education.
Course venues: The Royal Ballet School and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London.
Assessment
In addition to attendance at all the taught week-ends, participants are required to:
• Undertake tasks set by course tutors.
• Compile a personal portfolio.
• Undertake 16 hours of observation to include ballet technique classes, creative dance workshops and other ballet education activities.
• Undertake 20 hours of educational practice including teaching ballet technique classes, creative dance workshops or other ballet education activities.
• Be observed teaching 2 ballet classes and 2 creative workshops.
Complete a final assignment.
Teaching practice and the final project can be completed over an additional six month period. During this time course participants will have access to on-line support and the option of limited face-to-face tutorials.
Qualification
Participants will be awarded The Royal Ballet School / Royal Opera House Diploma in Ballet Education Practice upon successful completion of all Course assessments. The Course can also act as a foundation for the new Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning (Children and Young People), accredited at Level 6 on the QCF. On completion of the Course in Ballet Education Practice participants may be suitable for ‘fast track’ or ‘mentor only’ routes to DDTL units.
Cost
£2,200.00. Partial subsidy may be available for those who do not have access to alternative funding sources. Please enquire on application if you wish to apply for subsidy.
If participants wish to independently submit for the Diploma in Dance Teaching and Learning (Children and Young People) the cost for this qualification would be in addition to the above fee.
