BBC Question Time
The Lower School at White Lodge played host to the BBC’s Question Time on Thursday 20 May. A BBC crew and production team had been at White Lodge since the previous day transforming the Margot Fonteyn Studio Theatre to create the programme’s look for the broadcast, complete with the distinctive desk and Question Time backdrop. The Wolfson and Pilgrim classrooms became the Question Time nerve centre with the new Stock/Bussell Studios transformed into the waiting area where the 150 strong audience watched the latest news broadcasts in preparation for the programme.
For the year 11 students of White Lodge, the highlight of the day was taking part in the afternoon rehearsal as mock panellists and audience. With David Dimbleby leading the discussion, the students confidently role played both audience and panel with a wide variety of topical questions they had prepared in advance with their academic teachers.
The panellists for the actual broadcast were Sir Menzies Campbell (Liberal Democrat MP for North East Fife and former Leader of the Liberal Democrats), Shami Chakrabarti CBE (Director of Liberty), Caroline Louise Flint (Labour MP for Don Valley), Theresa May MP (Home Secretary), Douglas Murray (Author and Freelance Journalist).
