White Lodge Winter Wonderland
Dazzling in a thick blanket of fresh snow, White Lodge played host to two distinguished former students on Monday 20 December – former members of The Royal Ballet, William Trevitt and Michael Nunn. Now better known as the Balletboyz, Trevitt and Nunn are renowned filmmakers, particularly celebrated for their innovative synergy of film and dance.
The two were joined at White Lodge by their creative and film crew, together with 20 BTec students from Peckham Academy, to make a short film about the education work surrounding The Royal Ballet’s new Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The ballet, choreographed by another former student of the School, Christopher Wheeldon, receives its world premiere at the Royal Opera House on 2 March 2011.
Trevitt and Nunn remembered the magical atmosphere of the historic 18th century main Kings Pavilion and other outdoor locations at White Lodge and felt that the site, at the heart of Richmond Park, fitted well with the magical themes they hoped to capture in their short film.
Commissioned by the Royal Opera House Education Department, the 8 minute film will be screened at the Royal Opera House and on the Big Screen in the Piazza, Covent Garden during the season of performances of the new ballet.
