Former student of The Royal Ballet School becomes Principal Dancer in meteoric rise
Former student of The Royal Ballet School, Vadim Muntagirov, has been promoted to Principal Dancer with English National Ballet. The Russian-born dancer joined English National Ballet as First Artist at the beginning of the 2009/10 season, following his graduation from The Royal Ballet School.
Vadim has been performing principal roles since the beginning of his ENB career, causing a particular sensation among public and critics alike with his performances as Prince Siegfried in Derek Deane’s Swan Lake in-the-round at The Royal Albert Hall in 2010.
He has also danced the principal roles in Romeo and Juliet, The Nutcracker, Giselle and Les Sylphides forging a remarkable stage partnership with Senior Principal Dancer, Daria Klimenová which continues to capture the public imagination and win rave reviews.
As Principal Dancer, Vadim is literally now following in the footsteps of his parents, both of whom were Principal Dancers at the Chelyabinsk State Ballet Company, Russia.
Born in Chelyabinsk, Vadim’s early training took place at the Perm Ballet Academy. He joined The Royal Ballet School in 2006 thanks to a scholarship from the Rudolf Nureyev Foundation which he won at the Prix de Lausanne earlier that year. Among his many awards, Vadim won the coveted gold medal at the Youth America Grand Prix in 2008, aged just 17.
Director of The Royal Ballet School, Gailene Stock comments:
‘We are extremely proud of Vadim’s achievements since joining ENB, rising through the ranks so quickly and becoming Principal Dancer at just 21. He is a remarkable artist and I wish him continued success for the future. With Sergei Polunin similarly rising through the ranks at The Royal Ballet, it is heartening to know that former students have become Principal Dancers with two of our national companies while still so young.’
“Throughout the ballet he performs from the heart of the character and dances with a sensibility and a power that touch the heart.” The Financial Times on Swan Lake
