Congratulations and celebrations
Following fast on the heels of 100% passes at A-level and BTec at the Upper School, students at The Royal Ballet Lower School at White Lodge have received triumphant GCSE results, emphasising the School’s commitment to academic study. The School is not academically selective, and Lower School students have an impressive involvement in dance and music alongside their academic studies. Students in Year 11 won the Phyllis Bedells prize at The Royal Academy of Dance, competed in the finals of the Young British Dancer of the Year, performed in a gala the night before one GCSE exam and achieved several Grade 8 results in their instrumental or vocal exams and still produced a superb overall GCSE pass rate of 96%, with record numbers of A* and A grades for the second year in a row. One-third of the results were graded A* and another one-third graded A. In addition, the students achieved a 100% pass rate in Dance at AS level, with over a third of the results at grade A, and over half at grade A or B. Five of the 25 Year 11 students achieved no grade below A at GCSE, with two achieving 7 A* grades out of 8 subjects taken. Not to be outdone, three younger students (two from Year 10 and one from Year 9) achieved A* grades in one GCSE each.
