Fascinatin’ Rhythm!
Second year students at the Upper School took part in a special workshop today, led by Brazilian-born master percussionist, Adriano Adewale. The workshop is part of Take One Step, the title of this year’s choreographic project, led by Choreographic Course Coordinators Kate Flatt and Jennifer Jackson and designed to encourage students to take a fresh look at the ‘vocabulary’ of classical ballet.
During the workshop, Adewale performed excerpts from his album ‘Sound Journey’, fascinating the students with some of its unusual rhythms and ‘soundscapes’. The workshop concluded with Adewale accompanying the students in their creative tasks based on the session.
Take One Step will also feature workshops with Sonia Sabri on Kathak (a highly rhythmic and virtuoso style of dance from Northern India) and cellist Robert Cohen who returns to the School following the highly successful Collaborations project from last year.
