Lynn Seymour Award – Winners Announced

The annual Lynn Seymour Award for Expressive Dance took place yesterday at The Royal Ballet Upper School. The judges were Director of The Royal Ballet, Dame Monica Mason, and Award sponsor and drama coach, Nina Finburgh.

The Award was established by Nina in appreciation of Lynn Seymour, renowned for her expressive qualities as a dancer, and is designed to encourage students to develop their acting and dramatic interpretation.

The 2011 Winners are:

1st: Matthew Ball
(Dreaming of Freedom, an excerpt from Swansong, choreography: Christopher Bruce)

2nd: Anna Rose O’Sullivan (Lescaut’s Mistress, an excerpt from Manon, choreography: Kenneth MacMillan)

Joint 3rd: Matthew Knight (Angelo, an excerpt from Carman, choreography: Matthew Bourne)

Joint 3rd: Joan Zamora (Spartacus’ solo from Act l, choreography: Yuri Grigorovich)

The judges made special mentions of the performances by:

Nikisha Fogo, Lucy Gold, Kevin Hale, Esteban Hernandez, Marcelino Sambé, Hannah Thomas, Maud-Helene Treille, Georgia Ware
