The Kenneth MacMillan Senior Choreographic Award - Winners Announced
The annual Kenneth MacMillan Senior Choreographic Award took place at the Lower School, White Lodge on Thursday 13 December 2012. Sponsored by Lady MacMillan, the Senior Choreographic Award is designed to encourage students from Years 10 and 11 (ages 13 - 16) to create original work, but also to become involved in all aspects of choreographic creation from conception, to casting, rehearsing, directing, costuming and lighting.
The 2012 winners are:
First Prize: Charlotte Edmonds (Year 11) Avian Breath
Music: Maurice Ravel
Second Prize: Megan Cameron (Year 11) Undercurrents
Music: Dmitri Shostakovich
Third Prize: Grace Paulley (Year 11) Sonnet
Music: Arvo Pärt
This year’s distinguished judges were Director of The Royal Ballet, Kevin OÕHare, Associate Director of The Royal Ballet, Jeanetta Lawrence and Kenneth Tharp, Chief Executive Officer of The Place
The judges commended Claudia Nicholson (Year 10) for Pulse of Life and Augustus Payne (Year 10) for A Passing Shower. The John Mitchell Prize went to Charlotte Edmonds (Year 11) for Avian Breath. This prize is presented each year to the student who presents the ‘best folder’ containing information relating to development of the design and choreography of the piece.
