Royal Ballet Principal Dancers Tamara Rojo and Steven McRae are to share their experience and artistry with aspiring young dancers at The Royal Ballet School Super Sundays this autumn.
Tamara Rojo starts the season off with a session for girls aged 15-19.on Sunday 25 September. This includes a ballet class followed by a coaching session focussing on Aurora’s variation from Act 3 of The Sleeping Beauty. Steven McRae’s Super Sunday on 27 November especially for boys aged 15-19 will follow a similar format and both sessions will conclude with a special workshop and discussion for dance teachers.
Former dancer and distinguished teacher, Jean Yves Esquerre, returns to The Royal Ballet School to lead the Super Sunday on 9 October with a combined programme focussing on the needs of young dancers aged 13-15 and 16-19. As a dancer, Jean Yves performed with Maurice Béjart’s Les Ballets du XXème Siècle, John Neumeier’s Hamburg Ballet, and Jiri Kylian’s Nederlands Dans Theater. He was Artistic Director of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo and later concentrated on teaching, most recently with San Francisco Ballet. Jean Yves was guest teacher with The Royal Ballet School during the autumn 2010 term.
A special Super Sunday especially for dance teachers will be led by The Royal Ballet School’s physiotherapist Janet Briggs at The Lower School, White Lodge on 6 November. This is a unique opportunity to share The Royal Ballet School resources with teaching colleagues from around the UK. This session will focus on body conditioning for ballet, pliometric exercises and cliniband work.
Head of Outreach and Teacher Training Mark Annear comments:
Super Sundays are an excellent way of sharing the resources of The Royal Ballet School with a wider public and we are grateful to our distinguished roster of teachers for supporting us in this aspiration. This is an extraordinary opportunity for the young dancers of Britain to learn from some of the finest practitioners and teachers anywhere.
Super Sundays are open to all dance teachers and students aged 13 -19 years old (including vocational).
