Twenty primary school children from schools across Dagenham, all aged between 9 and 11, are to take part in a special Graduation Performance at The Royal Ballet School on Sunday 10 July at 2.30pm. The graduation celebrates their achievement in successfully completing the primarySTEPS programme which is hosted at Dagenham Park Church of England School for 5 schools within the borough.
The Dagenham children will be joined by children of the same age from the primarySTEPS programme in Swindon and both groups will perform dance pieces specially choreographed for them.
The performance will also feature the dance group D-Boyz from Swindon, the Dagenham aDvANCE group and students following the Centre for Advance Training programme at The Place, London.
The Royal Ballet School’s Dance Partnership and Access Programme started its first primarySTEPS centre in Dagenham in September 2006 with another primarySTEPS centre opening in Swindon the following year. Now, primarySTEPS has five national centres: Dagenham, Swindon, Blackpool, Mansfield and Bury St Edmunds where each year around 2,000 children in 27 participating primary schools are introduced to dance for the first time.
