• The Royal Ballet School’s Outreach Programme returns to Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

• Lucky 8-10 year olds in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne get chance to train with The Royal Ballet School.

Following the huge success of last year’s visit, The Royal Ballet School has scheduled a return visit in February. This special event is designed to give young dancers (aged between 8-10) in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne the chance to become a Royal Ballet School Junior Associate for a day: JA for a Day.

This is part of The Royal Ballet School’s Associate Programme and aims to encourage young people throughout the UK to develop their confidence and dance skills by giving them the experience of working with The Royal Ballet School’s teachers.

The event will take place at The Sage Academy, Byker, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne on Thursday, 21 February. Dance Teachers and parents are invited to observe throughout the day and attend question and answer sessions with Mark Annear – Head of Outreach and Teacher Training and members of The Royal Ballet School’s Outreach Team.

The lesson will include ballet conditioning exercises, a classical ballet class and a question and answer session and costs just £30. High demand is anticipated. Places are on a first come, first served basis and the closing date for applications is Monday, January 28.

Head of Outreach and Teacher Training, Mark Annear, comments:

‘Part of our nationwide Outreach Programme, these sessions give young dancers a real taste of what to expect from the expert weekly training they would receive as Royal Ballet School Junior Associates. The Royal Ballet School is always seeking new ways of reaching out to even more aspiring young dancers and these sessions aim to achieve this in the North East.’

The Royal Ballet School’s Outreach Programme is part of the School’s commitment to sharing its unique resources and training with the entire nation. Its Associate Programme engages with almost 500 young people across its 8 national centres: Birmingham, Bristol, Eastleigh, Leeds, London, Manchester, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne and Totnes.
